Hey Dan,
Just wanted to say thanks for the great day of fishing. My dad and I had fun on your boat and I was really impressed at how hard you worked to keep all the rods at the right depth. I was also impressed with the set-up of your boat and your knowledge of the lake is outstanding. Not only are you a top notch guide, but you are also a pretty good guy. Once again thanks for a good day on the water.

Dan,
Again Marty and I had great time! I no longer consider you as a guide but as a friend that is a guide. We have learned so much from you on our two trips ( 1@ New Melones 2 @ Don Pedro) Each time there is more to learn, Marty and I will be talking about these two trips for a long time and as you know we wanted to learn how to fish the for the Koke and Salmon, catching them was just a plus to us. I think I told you we have fished the Delta for 30 yrs and decided to try something different . I would and will recommend your service to all my friends Thanks again for a great day of catching fish.

PS, Hope to do it again real soon |

On April 15th 2008 my father treated me to a nice guided fishing trip with Dan Layne. We left a bit before 7:00 a.m., and we were fishing within 15 minutes. Within 30 minutes we had 3 hook-ups which was great start in my book. Dan is a fun loving fishing guide who gives you all the correct information needed to catch these feisty Kokanee and Rainbows. He has a nice boat that is fully equipped to handle all your fishin needs. Well after we learned what the bite and fight was like on the kokanee we just had a strike after strike of both types of fish. What really amazed me was that he knew exactly where these fish would be. I think by 9:30 we had 7 to 9 fish in the boat. I utterly had the time of my life. If anyone wants to go out on the water with someone who knows what they are doing, put you on fish, and have a great experience learning how to catch kokanee and Rainbows then there is no one better to go out on the water with then Dan. I had a great birthday fishing trip provided by Dad and Dan. Thanks to both I had a great day!!

Hi Dan,
Thanks for a great couple days of kokanee fishing! I really enjoyed being out on the water with you, my dentist Don and his dad LeRoy . It was nice to be able sit in your comfortable boat chairs instead of the dentist chair and actually have a real conversation with my dentist for once! All kidding aside, I was very impressed with your knowledge and expertise and appreciate the wealth of information you shared with us. This wasn't just a fishing excursion but a clinic on how to troll and successfully catch kokanee. I definitely will recommend you to my friends and clients that would like to learn more about fishing and have an enjoyable fishing experience. Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Mark Cooksey

Hi Danny,
Thanks for a great day on Lake Tulloch. My Dad and I had a blast and learned a lot. We went out the next day and caught 5 more using the techniques we learned from you. We can't wait to get back up to the lake. Of course I still have some shopping to do. I won't tell my wife I heard about this stuff from you. We will work on our trolling techniques for a while and later on we would like to spend another day learning more about going after the REALLY BIG ONES. Thanks again for a great day.

Thank you Dan for a wonderful time. It was the perfect trip for my Dad. He enjoyed every minute of it! I especially loved the fact that I was able to make another trip with him to celebrate his 93rd birthday! You have the best equipment, especially your custom LAMIGLAS fishing rods. Those Lamiglas rods really maximizes the fishing experience! Thanks again! We will be planning another trip with you soon.

Dear Dan,
I just wanted to write and thank you for the great time Tom Mussio and I had on Don Pedro earlier this week. When you said the salmon fishing was hot, I didn't think that meant we would have our limits before 9:30 am! The fishing was phenomenal!
Now, I have fished enough to know that catching is never a guarantee. But I can say from experience that your skill was a major factor to our success. You put us over the fish right away. Then, you put out your rigs to "cover the bases", using a variety of lures and baits at different depths. You checked the action of each lure or bait for proper action at the speed you trolled. You checked every rig often to make sure it was working. You're a true expert and professional.
One of the best parts of my experience was your willingness to share what you knew about fishing. I truly enjoyed our conversations and am now a more skilled fisherman after your trip.
All-in-all, I was an oustanding experience for us. Thanks for a great day.
Best of luck to you,

I scheduled a trip with Dan on New Melones with a friend of mine. The first time I had ever fished for Kokanee was a month earlier. I had only caught a couple of fish each time I went out, so I wanted to see how the experts do it. We met Dan at the Tuttletown ramp. Dan's boat is a beautiful Design Concepts 22' fishing machine. The boat is spotless and has room for four fisherman with room to spare. His equipment is top quality and in excellent shape. We stop at the first spot and Dan let's out the downrigger. While he is setting up the second rod we have a fish on already. Well that was what the day would be like. We never went more than ten minutes without a fish on. While we decided to only keep the quality Kokanee we still finished with easy limits. Dan was very helpful answering my questions about Kokanee habbits, feeding, location depth, type of lures etc.... Although we lost many fish Dan always had a smile on his face and said "Welcome to Kokanee fishing, they are experts at spitting the hook, it is part of the game." At the end of the day Dan took us to the fish cleaning station where he
expertly fillet and bagged all of our fish to take home.
The next thing I did was book another trip. Dan is a pleasure to fish with and a great teacher who enjoys his work. I look forward to our next trip together and seeing Dan on the water as I fish on my own boat using the techniques he taught me.

Dan,
Thanks a million for the great day on New Melones! Mark and I had an absolutely fabulous time. We have fished with guides from New York (Great Lakes - Niagara) to Alaska and many places in between and we have had good and bad experiences. We both agree that our experience with you June 2, 2005 was without a doubt one of the best experiences we have ever had. Your equipment is top quality from that beautiful boat to the sharp hooks and everything in between. The rods and reels were excellent and well maintain. The boat was impeccably neat and clean. I really appreciate the fact that you were gracious enough to set up my own favorite rod and reel and let me use it. Catching the fish of the day on it was an added bonus. We were impressed at your knowledge of fishing in general and your absolute knowledge of the waters we fished together. How impressed we were that only one other boat limited out that day. Not only did we limit but we actually released fish as well. I can't tell you how much we appreciated you cleaning our catch. That is fast becoming a rarity in the guide industry. The Kokes were delicious and all we had to do was put them on the grill when we got home. If you ever need a recommendation please feel free to have prospective clients call either of us. We are looking forward with great anxiety to our next trip with you. Can't wait to do a salmon trip this fall as well. You have the perfect boat set up for those power fish. Its going to be a kick.
Sincerely, John and Mark Mansu

Dan,
Thanks for a great experiance May the 23rd on your boat and what a boat it is Judy, Melisa and myself had the best time and learned a great deal about fishing with downriggers and how to cure the corn, etc.
Also it was really informitive listening to you speak at the Gloryhole Sports Seminar on April the 9th and winning a trip for 2 with you what a great prize with the best guide in my opinion and the Kokenne were out of this world when it comes to taste.
Thanks Again Bob Gannon
